And Allah knows best! Perhaps one-third of the blood money (diyah) is given because by bursting, cutting, or uprooting these organs, the apparent beauty and elegance are lost. Although these organs are devoid of their original function, by remaining in their place they still provide outward adornment and beauty. From a distance, the person appears free of defect; therefore, for destroying such an organ, the Shari‘ah has prescribed that one-third of the blood money fixed for that organ must be given. The blood money for a sound eye is fifty camels, for a sound hand is fifty camels, and for a sound tooth is five camels; their one-third comes under the category of kasr (fraction). Therefore, in the case of kasr, the value will be assessed, for example: the blood money for an eye and a lifeless hand will be sixteen camels each, and for the remaining two teeth, one-third of the total value of two camels will be given. If the value of two camels is three hundred thousand rupees, then one hundred thousand will be given to him. And Allah knows best.
