Hadith 4404

Narrated Atiyyah al-Qurazi: I was among the captives of Banu Qurayzah. They (the Companions) examined us, and those who had begun to grow hair (pubes) were killed, and those who had not were not killed. I was among those who had not grown hair.

Benefits and Issues:
The Banu Qurayzah was a Jewish tribe settled in the outskirts of Madinah and, according to the Constitution of Madinah, was responsible and obligated for the defense of Yathrib. However, at the time of the Battle of the Trench (Khandaq), they violated this agreement and sided with the Quraysh of Makkah, becoming participants in the battle.

This was a severe trial for the Muslims, but Allah Ta'ala granted them victory, and all the enemies were humiliated and forced to retreat.

Afterwards, when the Muslims besieged Banu Qurayzah, they agreed to accept the decision of Hazrat Sa'd bin Mu'adh radi Allahu anhu.

He ruled that the adult men and mature individuals should be killed.

The women and children who had reached puberty should be taken as slaves and slave-girls.
