This tradition has been transmitted through a different chain by Abu Qatadah to the same effect. This version adds: "He performed ablution when the sun had arisen high and led them in prayer. "

440. Commentary:
➊ During sleep, the soul is taken, but its connection with the body remains.
The statement of Allah, the Exalted, is: «اللَّهُ يَتَوَفَّى الْأَنْفُسَ حِينَ مَوْتِهَا وَالَّتِي لَمْ تَمُتْ فِي مَنَامِهَا فَيُمْسِكُ الَّتِي قَضَى عَلَيْهَا الْمَوْتَ وَيُرْسِلُ الْأُخْرَى إِلَى أَجَلٍ مُسَمًّى إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ لِقَوْمٍ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ» [الزمر : 42]
"Allah takes the souls at the time of their death, and those that do not die (He takes) during their sleep. Then He withholds those for whom He has decreed death and releases the others for a specified term. Indeed in this are signs for a people who give thought."
➋ When a person wakes up at such a constricted time that the sun is about to rise or set, then in this situation, if he waits for the sun to rise or set, it is permissible.
