Abu Umamah said: A man came to the prophet ﷺ and said: Messenger of Allah! I have committed a crime which involves prescribed punishment so inflict it on me. He said: Have you not performed ablution when you came? He said: Yes, He said: Have you not prayed with us when we prayed ? He said: Yes. He then said: Go off, for Allah, the Exalted, forgave you.

Hadith Takhrij« صحیح مسلم/التوبة 7 (2765)، (تحفة الأشراف: 4878)، وقد أخرجہ: مسند احمد ( 5/251، 262، 265) (صحیح) »
Benefits and Issues: ➊ Without explicit mention of the crime, no prescribed punishment (hadd) can be applied merely on the basis of an admission.
➋ When faith becomes firmly rooted in a person's heart and he becomes concerned about his Hereafter, he makes every effort to leave this world purified and to present himself before Allah in a state of cleanliness.
➌ Ablution (wudu), congregational prayer, and all kinds of righteous deeds continue to serve as expiation for a person's minor slips.
