Narrated Jabir ibn Abdullah: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said one day from the pulpit: When some people were sailing in the sea, their food was finished. An island appeared to them. They went out seeking bread. They were met by the Jassasah (the Antichrist's spy). I said to Abu Salamah: What is the Jassasah? He replied: A woman trailing the hair of her skin and of her head. She said: In this castle. He then narrated the rest of the (No. 4311) tradition. He asked about the palm-trees of Baysan and the spring of Zughar. He said: He is the Antichrist. Ibn Salamah said to me: There is something more in this tradition, which I could not remember. He said: Jabir testified that it was he who was Ibn Sayyad. I said: He died. He said: Let him die. I said: He accepted Islam. He said: Let him accept Islam. I said: He entered Madina. He said: Let him enter Madina.

1؎ : Hafiz Ibn Kathir writes that some of the noble Companions (Sahabah) understood that Ibn Sayyad was indeed the same Masih al-Dajjal whose appearance near the Day of Judgment has been promised. However, based on the narration of Fatimah bint Qays radi Allahu anha, there is no certainty in this matter; he is merely a minor dajjal. Furthermore, Imam Bayhaqi says: From the narration of Fatimah radi Allahu anha, it becomes clear that the greater Dajjal (Dajjal Akbar) is not Ibn Sayyad, but someone else. Ibn Sayyad is merely one of those false dajjals whose appearance the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam had foretold, and most of whom have already appeared. Those who have confidently declared Ibn Sayyad to be the Masih al-Dajjal have not heard the incident related by Tamim al-Dari radi Allahu anhu, because both matters cannot fit upon one person. How can it be that the person who, during the Prophethood of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, was a boy nearing puberty, who met the Prophet, and engaged in questions and answers with him, then in the latter part of the Prophet’s life became old, and at the same time is lying shackled in chains on an island in the sea, asking about the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam—whether his appearance has occurred or not?
