Hadith 4263

حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْمِصِّيصِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ جُبَيْرٍ حَدَّثَهُ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ الْمِقْدَادِ بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ ، قَالَ : ايْمُ اللَّهِ لَقَدْ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " إِنَّ السَّعِيدَ لَمَنْ جُنِّبَ الْفِتَنَ إِنَّ السَّعِيدَ لَمَنْ جُنِّبَ الْفِتَنِ إِنَّ السَّعِيدَ لَمَنِ جُنِّبَ الْفِتَنَ وَلَمَنِ ابْتُلِيَ ، فَصَبَرَ فَوَاهًا " .
Narrated Al-Miqdad ibn al-Aswad: I swear by Allah, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: The happy man is he who avoids dissensions: happy is the man who avoids dissensions; happy is the man who avoids dissensions: but how fine is the man who is afflicted and shows endurance.

The summary of all these ahadith is that when there is discord and conflict among Muslims, and it is not clear which party is upon the truth, then it is better to refrain from participating in it. To the extent that accepting being killed is better than killing someone.
