Hadith 4252

Narrated Thawban: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: Allah, the Exalted, folded for me the earth, or he said (the narrator is doubtful): My Lord folded for me the earth, so much so that I saw its easts and wests (i. e. the extremities). The kingdom of my community will reach as far as the earth was floded for me. The two treasures, the red and the white, were bestowed on me. I prayed to my Lord that He may not destroy my community by prevailing famine, and not give their control to an enemy who annihilates then en masse except from among themselves. My Lord said to me: Muhammad, If I make a decision, it is not withdrawn ; and I shall not destroy them by prevailing famine, and I shall not give their control to an enemy, except from among themselves, who exterminates them en masse, even if they are stormed from all sides of the earth ; only a section of them will destroy another section, and a section will captive another section. I am afraid about my community of those leaders who will lead astray. When the sword is used among my people, it will not be withdrawn from them till the Day of Resurrection, and the Last Hour will not come before the tribes of my people attach themselves to the polytheists and tribes of my people worship idols. There will be among my people thirty great liars each of them asserting that he is (Allah's) prophet, where as I am the seal of the Prophet s after whom (me) there will be no prophet ; and a section of my people will continue to hold to the truth - (according to the Ibn Isa's version: (will continue to dominate) - the agreed version goes: "and will not be injured by those who oppose them, till Allah's command comes. "

Benefits and Issues:
➊ In the ahadith of this subject, there is glad tidings that the authority of the Muslim Ummah will reach the farthest ends of the East and West. This has already been manifested to some extent, and insha Allah, it will continue further.

➋ By "red and white" is meant the wealth of gold and silver. And in reality, the sources and resources of wealth that Muslims collectively possess in the world are not possessed by any other community. It is another matter that, in the current circumstances, Muslims, due to their ignorance and Allah’s punishment (I think it should be ‘wrath’ but as it is written in the file, I am writing it as is), are afflicted with tribulation in this regard, and other nations are benefiting from their wealth.

➌ There will not be a complete and collective famine in this Ummah; partial famine may occur.

➍ No other nation will be directly imposed upon this Ummah; rather, it will always be that some people from among the Muslims themselves will be used against them to subdue them. These facts are evident in history, and current circumstances bear witness to this.

➎ The misguided leaders (aimmah mudhillin), whether religious or political, are the greatest tribulation for the Ummah. And the common people, in general, follow their leaders and rulers.

➏ And it cannot be denied that since the sword has been drawn among the Ummah, it has not been sheathed. La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.

➐ Eventually, knowledge will be taken away from the Ummah, ignorance will become widespread, to the extent that people will fall into clear and manifest shirk, even idol worship. Wa nas’al Allah as-salamah.

➑ From Musaylimah the Liar until now, from time to time, false prophets have continued to appear, and perhaps more will appear; for example, in India, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani was a tyrant of his time. Their total number is unknown, but among them, thirty will be very prominent.

➒ The truth and the people of truth will never become extinct from the Ummah. In small numbers, they will always make themselves apparent and prominent everywhere, which is a historical fact and also a prophecy from the tongue of Prophethood for the future.

Hadith Commentary:
Vocabulary of the Hadith:
(1)
Ahmar and Abyad,
meaning dinar and dirham (gold and silver),
because the common currency of Kisra was the dinar and of Caesar was the dirham, and both of these came under the control of the Muslims.
(2)
Sanah ‘Aammah:
such a drought,
which encompasses the entire Muslim Ummah and all become its victims,
to this day, such a famine has not occurred in Muslim lands.
(3)
Yastabeehu Baydatuhum,
he considers their entire community permissible for himself,
he prevails over all the Muslims,
to this day, it has not happened that all Muslims have been deprived of power,
however, Muslims do continue to kill one another among themselves and become the cause of each other’s imprisonment and captivity,
the enemy keeps making them fight amongst themselves.

Benefits and Issues:

➊ The meaning of the earth being gathered is that Allah, the Exalted, unveiled the earth for His Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) in such a way that he observed its eastern and western regions simultaneously.

➋ As for the extent to which the earth was gathered, this indicates that some parts of the earth were not included in this unveiling. It is possible that only those regions were shown where, at some point, it would be possible for Islamic rule to be established—that is, the Islamic empire was shown at its greatest expanse. It is also possible that the entire earth was shown, because during the time of ‘Isa (alayhis salam), Islam will prevail over the whole world, as he will not accept jizyah, but rather his demand will be that either you become Muslim or prepare to die.

➌ The meaning of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) being given the treasures of gold and silver is that the Ummah would gain possession and control over these treasures, as happened during the era of the Rightly Guided Caliphate when the empires of Caesar and Chosroes were destroyed and their treasures came under Muslim control.

➍ The meaning of the entire Ummah not perishing from hunger is not that they will never be afflicted with such a punishment in part; rather, due to the crimes of the Ummah, various types of localized punishments have occurred and may occur in the future.

➎ The occurrence of mutual killing and bloodshed among Muslims does not mean that we should accept it as inevitable; rather, it is our duty to do whatever is practically possible to rescue Muslims from this situation.

➏ To protect oneself from the evil of misguided leaders, it is necessary for us to acquire knowledge of the Qur’an and the noble hadiths, so that by knowing the true teachings of the religion, we may act upon them.

➐ By "wathan" (idol), not only is a statue (sanam) meant, but anything that is worshipped besides Allah is a wathan: for example, the graves of elders, pictures, relics, trees, stones, and caves attributed to saints, etc. All the displays of so-called reverence and acts of shirk performed due to these things have turned them into wathans. Therefore, it is the duty of every monotheist to stay away from them.

➑ The joining of Muslims with polytheists can also occur in such a way that they leave Islam and become apostates, or that in times of war, conflict, and strife, they assist non-Muslims against Muslims, or that they adopt the infidel customs and manifestations of atheism by labeling them as "civilization," such as the Hindu festival of Basant, the Christian Valentine’s Day, and April Fool’s Day, etc.

➒ Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is the last Prophet of Allah. Anyone who claims prophethood after him is a dajjal (great deceiver) and a liar, such as Mirza Ghulam Qadiani or Elijah Muhammad, etc.

➓ A group of the people of truth will remain established until the Day of Judgment, who will take the Qur’an and hadith as their guiding light and will clarify the misguidance of newly emerging deviant sects.

⓫ Imam Ibn Majah (rahimahullah) has described this hadith as frightening because it mentions Muslims becoming involved in major disbelief and shirk. Indeed, it is a dangerous matter that a person considers himself a Muslim, yet with Allah he has already exited Islam.
