Abdur Rahman ibn Tarafah said that his grandfather Arfajah ibn Asad who had his nose cut off at the battle of al-Kilab got a silver nose, but it developed a stench, so the Prophet ﷺ ordered him to get a gold nose.

1؎: It is the name of a spring between Basrah and Kufah. In the era of ignorance (Jahiliyyah), a battle took place here (al-Nihayah by Ibn al-Athir).
2؎: Although the hadith does not mention fastening teeth, the author has made an analogy between the tooth and the nose: when it is permissible to have a nose, which is a limb, made of gold, then it will also be permissible to fasten teeth with gold. For this reason, he has established the “Chapter on Fastening Teeth.”

Benefits and Issues: (Kilab) — with a dammah (u-sound) on the letter kaf. It is the name of a place between Kufa and Basra. In the era of ignorance (Jahiliyyah), two battles took place here. Once between Banu Bakr and Banu Taghlib, and the second time between Banu Tamim and the people of Hajar. ‘Arfajah participated in this second battle. The inference from this hadith is that it is permissible to have teeth made of gold and the like. Whether a man does so or a woman, but adornment (jewelry) is only permissible for women.

Explanation: 1: It is the name of one of the famous battles of Arabia.
2: Based on this, the scholars deduce that in cases of extreme necessity, it is permissible to make a nose out of gold and to bind teeth with gold wire.
