Hadith 4125

Narrated Salamah ibn al-Muhabbaq: On the expedition of Tabuk the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to a household and, seeing a bucket hanging, asked for water. They said: Messenger of Allah, the animal died a natural death. He replied; Its tanning is its purification.

Lexical Explanation:
«سَلَمَه» is with fatha on all three letters: seen, laam, and meem.
«اَلْمُحَبِّق» is with dammah on the “meem,” fatha on the “haa,” shaddah and kasrah on the “baa,” although the hadith scholars hold the view of fatha on the “baa,” and this is the more well-known pronunciation.

Narrator of the Hadith: His kunyah is Abu Sinan. He is counted among the Basran Companions. Due to his attribution to Hudhayl ibn Mudrikah ibn Ilyas, he is called Hudhali. He was present at Hunayn, and when he received the glad tidings of the birth of his son Sinan, he said: “The joy I feel for the arrow I shot in defense of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is greater to me than the glad tidings of my son’s birth.” Hasan al-Basri and others have narrated hadiths from him.
