Hadith 4082

Muawiyah bin Qurrah quoted his father as saying: I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with a company of Muzainah and we swore allegiance to him. The buttons of his shirt were open. I swore allegiance to him and I put my hand inside the collar of his shirt and felt the seal. Urwah said: I always saw Muawiyah and his son opening their buttons of the collar during winter and summer. They never closed their buttons.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
Benefits and Issues:
➊ Leaving the buttons open, if done out of humility and in imitation of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), is recommended and a source of reward. However, in some regions among us, this practice is also done out of arrogance, where such people even leave their collars open. Therefore, it is necessary to avoid resembling them.

➋ The noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum) would also make the habits of the Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) a part of their own practice, which was certainly an expression of love.
