Narrated Jabir ibn Abdullah: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ paid visit to us, and saw a dishevelled man whose hair was disordered. He said: Could this man not find something to make his hair lie down? He saw another man wearing dirty clothes and said: Could this man not find something to wash his garments with.

Benefits and Issues:
It is necessary for a Muslim to take care of the cleanliness and purity of his body and his clothing.
Remaining dirty and unkempt, and not grooming one’s hair, is neither asceticism (zuhd) nor simplicity; rather, it is a sign of ignorance and heedlessness, which does not befit any dignified Muslim.
Islam is an extremely clean and pure religion, and it demands cleanliness from its followers as well. Furthermore, Allah Ta’ala is Beautiful (Jameel) and loves beauty; the Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said that indeed Allah Ta’ala is Beautiful and loves beauty, that is, He loves beauty and excellence.
