Hadith 406

حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَيَاتُهَا أَنْ تَجِدَ حَرَّهَا .
Khaythamah said: By the life of the sun is meant that you may find heat in it.

406. Commentary:
➊ This is evidence that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used to perform the Asr prayer at the earliest time, the details of which have already been mentioned: the time for Asr begins when the shadow becomes equal to the length of an object.
➋ The settlements towards the southeast of Madinah were called «عوالي» "the upper area," and the region towards the north was called «سافله» "the lower area."
