باب مَا جَاءَ فِي الْقَمِيصِChapter: What Has Been Reported About The Qamis.
Hadith 4025

حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، حَدَّثَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمُؤْمِنِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْحَنَفِيِّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَتْ : " كَانَ أَحَبُّ الثِّيَابِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْقَمِيصُ " .
Narrated Umm Salamah, Ummul Muminin: The clothing which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ liked best was shirt.

Benefits and Issues:
Perhaps the reason for this is that a sheet (chadar) has to be managed, whereas after wearing a shirt (qamees), the hands can be used more easily.
And the shirt (qamees) of the Arabs reaches down to the bottom, so if it is made of thick cloth, then even without an izar (lower garment), the private parts remain covered.
And Allah knows best.
