Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
Benefits and Issues:
In this noble verse, the word (ghayr) with a fatha (zabar) is the recitation (qira’ah) of the people of the Two Sanctuaries (Ahl al-Haramayn), Nafi‘, Ibn ‘Amir, and Kisai, and in this case, it is a circumstantial qualifier (hal) or an exception (mustathna). Whereas Ibn Kathir, Abu ‘Amr, Hamzah, and ‘Asim recite it with a nominative case (marfu‘), which is the attribute (sifah) of "qa‘idun" (those who sit).
And there is also a recitation with a kasrah (zer), but it is rare (shadh).
In that case, it would be the attribute (sifah) of the believers (mu’minin) or its substitute (badal).
