Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
Benefits and Issues:
In the era of ignorance (Jahiliyyah), it used to happen that when a man would leave his house and see a bird flying to his right, he would consider it a good omen (source of blessing) for himself, and if it was going to the left, he would consider it a bad omen (devoid of blessing).
For this purpose, those people would sometimes even make the bird fly themselves.
For any believer, this practice is impermissible.
