Benefit: This hadith supports the theory of the natures and properties of things, which is well-known in ancient medicine. In reality, with regard to the properties of things, the coldness and heat referred to are not the coldness and heat that can be measured by a thermometer. Rather, the state that a person feels in the body upon using these things is likened to coldness or heat, and expressing it in this way has been common among physicians and ordinary people since ancient times. Even English doctors call food in which chilies and spices have been excessively added "very hot," even if that food is actually cold in terms of temperature.
