Narrated Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman: Zirr ibn Hubaysh said: Hudhayfah traced, I think, to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ the saying: He who spits in the direction of the qiblah will come on the Day of Resurrection in the state that his saliva will be between his eyes; and he who eats from this noxious vegetable should not come near our mosque, saying it three times.

Benefits and Issues:
➊
Apart from the etiquettes of the mosque, this matter is also extremely important in respect of the qiblah:
that one should not spit in its direction.
Whether in the state of prayer or outside of prayer, this has been stated explicitly, but people do not pay attention to it.
Whereas the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) removed a person from the position of imam as a consequence of this offense.
See:
(previous hadith 482,
Book of Prayer, Dislike of Spitting in the Mosque)
➋
An important aspect of the reverence and sanctity of the Prophet’s Mosque (Masjid Nabawi) and the Sacred Mosque (Haram Makki) is that a person should not, in any way, become a cause of harm or annoyance to others.
The etiquette of other mosques is the same.
As is mentioned in the next hadith.
