Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar: Abdullah ibn Ubaydullah ibn Umayr said: I was with my father in the time of Ibn az-Zubayr sitting beside Abdullah ibn Umar. Then Abbad ibn Abdullah ibn az-Zubayr said: We have heard that the evening meal is taken just before the night prayer. Thereupon Abdullah ibn Umar said: Woe to you! what was their evening meal? Do you think it was like the meal of your father?

Benefits and Issues:
Benefit: The narration of Hazrat Jabir radi Allahu anhu (7358) is weak in its chain, but the narration of Hazrat Abdullah bin Ubayd bin Umair is authentic.
And it supports the meaning of the previous hadith.
The first hadith of the chapter emphasizes eating before prayer, and the two hadiths emphasize not delaying prayer for the sake of eating.
Allamah Khattabi, while clarifying both, states:
If the desire for food is very strong and the dining mat has already been laid out, then one should eat first.
But if this is not the case—
If there are elaborate preparations in the food and it will take a long time, and there is a fear that the time for prayer or the congregation will pass, then one should perform the prayer first.
