This they reported on the authority of Ibn Abbas said: I am afraid it may not be muzza from which (the people of) Abd al-Qais were prohibited. I asked Qatadah: What is muzza’? Benefits and Issues:
Benefit: The custom of making wine differed in various regions.
And the names were also different.
The name "madaa" was probably not previously familiar to the people of Hijaz.
Therefore, the information that reached Ibn Abbas (radi Allahu anhu) regarding madaa was only that it is an intoxicating drink made from semi-ripe dates.
Hisham, after asking Qatadah, provided further details about it.
In addition, it is explicitly stated in al-Nihayah by Ibn Athir
that madaa is that wine
which has sourness in it.
Some have also called the making of nabidh by mixing semi-ripe and ripe dates "madaa."
In any case, in whatever form intoxicating effects appear in a drink, its use is not permissible.
