حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، حَدَّثَنِي مَنْصُورٌ ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : " لَمَّا نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الْأَوْعِيَةِ ، قَالَ : قَالَتْ الْأَنْصَارُ : إِنَّهُ لَا بُدَّ لَنَا ، قَالَ : فَلَا إذًا " .

Nasai — Hadith 5659
´It was narrated from Jabir that :` When the Messenger of Allah [SAW] forbade large water skins that are cut from the top and can no longer be closed, Ansar complained and said: "O Messenger of Allah, we do not have any vessels." The Prophet [SAW] said: "Then there is no harm."

It appears that this restriction remained in place for some time. Later, perceiving the hardship of the people, the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) lifted the restriction.
