Narrated Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-As: The Prophet ﷺ said: The similitude of the one who takes back what he gifted is like that of a dog which vomits and then it eats vomit. When a donor seeks to take back (his gift), it should be made known and he informed why he sought to take it back. Then whatever he donated should be returned to him.

Benefits and Issues:
Benefit: To give a gift and then take it back is contrary to good character and chivalry.
Furthermore, to give something to someone of one’s own accord and then take it back causes humiliation and distress to that person.
Therefore, in order to discourage this act, it has been commanded that the person should be questioned in front of everyone as to what the purpose was in giving and then taking back the gift. Is it not the case that the intention was to humiliate the other person? And this statement is for warning.
That is, to make the reprehensibility of this blameworthy act even clearer so that a person refrains from acting in this manner.
