Ata said: Blight means anything which obviously damages (the crop), by rain, hail, locust, blast of wind, or fire.
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
Benefits and Issues:
Afflictions can be of three types.
➊
Those that affect the crop or fruit at a stage when it is not yet fit for use.
These are natural diseases.
When the crop or fruit is at this stage, it is prohibited to sell it.
➋
When the fruit is near ripening, the color of some fruits (for example, dates) begins to change.
At this stage, it is permissible to sell the fruits while they are still on the trees.
Now, they may be harmed by rain, hail, storms, etc.
And in this case, the fruit will have become fit for use in some way.
And complete destruction can be avoided.
➌
Or the third case is of afflictions like locust swarms, fire, etc.
In this case, there will be complete destruction.
In such a case of destruction, it is also obligatory upon the owner
to participate in compensation.
