Hadith 346

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي هِلَالٍ ، عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ نُسَيٍّ ، عَنْ أَوْسٍ الثَّقَفِيِّ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : مَنْ غَسَلَ رَأْسَهُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَاغْتَسَلَ ، ثُمَّ سَاقَ نَحْوَهُ .
Aws al-Thaqafi reported the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: If anyone washes his head on Friday and washes himself; and he narrated the rest of the tradition as above.

346. Commentary:
This narration clarifies the meaning of the aforementioned hadith, and the particular mention of "washing the head" is because the Arabs used to keep long hair, and washing it required effort and took time.
