Hadith 342

Narrated Hafsah, Ummul Muminin: The Prophet ﷺ said: It is necessary for every adult (person) to go for (saying) Friday (prayer), and for everyone who goes for Friday (prayer) washing is necessary. Abu Dawud said: If one takes bath after sunrise, even though he washes because of seminal emission, that will be enough for him for his washing on Friday.

342. Commentary:
Jumu'ah (Friday prayer) is obligatory upon every adult, provided he is not excused, and as explicitly stated in the Prophetic hadith, children, women, slaves, and travelers are exempted. As for the traveler, this applies when he is actually on his journey; however, if he is staying at a place and Jumu'ah is being held nearby, and there is no valid legal excuse, then in such a situation, attending Jumu'ah becomes necessary.
