Narrated Kab ibn Malik: Kab ibn Malik said to AbuLubabah; or someone else whom Allah wished; or to the Prophet ﷺ: To make my repentance complete I should depart from the house of my people in which I fell into sin, and that I should divest myself of all my property as sadaqah (alms). He said: A third (of your property) will be sufficient for you.

Benefits and Issues:
The story of Abu Lubabah (Rifa‘ah bin ‘Abd al-Mundhir radi Allahu anhu) is as follows: When the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) laid siege to Banu Qurayzah, and these people were allies of the tribe of Aws, they consulted Abu Lubabah radi Allahu anhu as to whether they should appoint Sa‘d bin Mu‘adh radi Allahu anhu as their judge or not. Abu Lubabah radi Allahu anhu indicated by gesture that the outcome would be killing. However, at that very moment, he realized that he had betrayed Allah and His Noble Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). Thus, he returned and tied himself to a pillar of the mosque. He swore an oath that he would not untie himself until Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, accepted his repentance. Eventually, Allah Ta‘ala accepted his repentance. (Usud al-Ghabah)
