Hadith 328

Aban said: Qatadah was asked about tayammum during a journey. He said: A traditionist reported to me from al-Shabi from Abdur-Rahman bin Abza on the authority of Ammar bin Yasir who reported the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: (He should wipe) up to the elbows.

328. Commentary:
This narration is weak. Shaykh al-Albani has also explicitly stated that the words "up to the elbows" are munkar, meaning they are contrary to authentic narrations. In any case, the summary of all the aforementioned narrations is that the most authentic narration regarding tayammum is the one in which the method of tayammum is described as striking the hands on the earth only once, then blowing on them, rubbing them together, and then wiping the face with them.
