Narrated Abu Barzah al-Aslami: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not pray over Maiz ibn Malik, and he did not prohibit to pray over him.
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
Benefits and Issues:
➊
According to some narrations, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) did not perform the funeral prayer for Ma'iz bin Malik (radi Allahu anhu), but he did perform the funeral prayer for the Ghamidiyyah woman.
And both of them were stoned to death as the prescribed punishment (hadd) for adultery (zina).
➋
In such matters, the Imam may act in any manner he deems appropriate according to the situation.
However, ordinary Muslims should perform their funeral prayer.
For details regarding the narrations of the story of Ma'iz, see:
I'laa al-Ghaleel, vol. 7, hadith 2322. Meanwhile, Allamah Shawkani considers the narration that the funeral prayer was performed for Ma'iz (radi Allahu anhu) to be the stronger opinion.
