Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
Benefits and Issues:
➊
The sheikh of Imam Abu Dawood, Musaddad, narrated this report once as marfu‘ (attributed to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) and once as mawquf (stopped at a Companion).
➋
This sudden death is a seizure of Allah’s displeasure for the disbeliever.
Because, firstly, his life has been spent in disobedience to Allah.
Secondly, due to sudden death, the possibility of repentance that exists
also comes to an end.
Otherwise, a person becomes ill,
and gradually moves towards death.
In that case, before dying, there is an opportunity for reform and repentance,
which is eliminated by sudden death.
However, the case of an obedient, believing servant of Allah is the opposite.
He is always prepared for death,
and every moment of his life is spent in obedience to Allah.
Therefore, his sudden death is not a sign of Allah’s displeasure.
Rather, it will be a cause for the elevation of his ranks.
That is why, in Shu‘ab al-Iman of Imam Bayhaqi, this narration has come with these words:
(Akhadhaha la asaf lil-kafiri wa rahmatun lil-mu’min) (Mishkat, Book of Funerals, Chapter: Wishing for Death and Mentioning It): Sudden death is a seizure of displeasure for the disbeliever,
and a mercy for the believer.
