Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas: Al-Abbas ibn Abdul Muttalib brought Abu Sufyan ibn Harb to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the year of the conquest (of Makkah). So he embraced Islam at Marr az-Zahran. Al-Abbas said to him: Messenger of Allah, Abu Sufyan is a man who likes taking this pride, if you may do something for him. He said: Yes, he who enters the house of Abu Sufyan is safe, and he who closes his door is safe.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
Benefits and Issues:
In Dhu al-Qa'dah of the 6th year of Hijrah, this treaty was made between the Muslims and the Quraysh of Makkah at the place of Hudaybiyyah.
That both parties would cease hostilities for ten years.
During this period, people would live in every way in peace.
And no one would raise a hand against anyone.
However, Banu Bakr (allies of the Quraysh) attacked Banu Khuza'ah (allies of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).
In this, the Quraysh secretly gave full support to their allies, and the allied tribe of the Muslims was killed.
And several people were even killed inside the Haram.
In this way, the treaty was broken.
Then the Muslims, by adopting a very good strategy, conquered Makkah.
And then the banner of Islam began to wave over the entire Arabian Peninsula.
This incident is from the 8th year of Hijrah.
(The details of which are worthy of careful study in "Al-Raheeq Al-Makhtum" by Allamah Safiur Rahman Mubarakpuri rahimahullah and other books of Seerah.)

Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
Benefits and Issues:

The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), in view of his broad-mindedness, lofty vision, and the great objective of spreading Islam, forgave all of Abu Sufyan’s past excesses.
Rather, he accepted his Islam and even honored him.
A true leader is one who succeeds in utilizing his people according to their temperaments for the fulfillment of the mission.

In Islamic teachings, generally, humility, modesty, and anonymity are praised and encouraged.
However, some temperaments possess opposite qualities, which, if used for Islam and the Muslims, are very commendable.
Thus, these qualities of Abu Sufyan (radi Allahu anhu) proved to be very beneficial for Islam and the Muslims.
