Narrated Ibn al-Saeedi: Umar reported me to collect the sadaqah (i. e. zakat). When I became free, he ordered to give me payment for it. I said: I have worked for the sake of Allah. He said: Take what you have been given, for I held an administrative post in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he gave me payment for it.

It is obligatory that whenever someone is employed for a task, his right to compensation for service must also be fulfilled. In this way, a real responsibility is placed upon the worker, and in the case of negligence, the right to hold him accountable also remains. Otherwise, the aspect of negligence will prevail.

The narrator of the hadith has also been referred to as Ibn al-Sa'di, and his actual name has been reported as Abdullah, or Amr, or Qudamah.
