Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
Benefits and Issues:
The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), while being like a father to the members of the Ummah, did not shake hands with unrelated women (ajnabi women) even in such an important legal matter as the pledge of allegiance (bay‘ah). Others should be even more cautious. Similarly, it is obligatory upon women as well to avoid shaking hands and mixing with unrelated men (non-mahram men).
2.
It is permissible to converse with unrelated women regarding permissible matters of necessity, while observing the proper Islamic etiquette.
