1؎: This is called the prostration of gratitude (sajdat al-shukr), which, according to the Imams of Islam—Shafi'i, Ahmad, and Muhammad—is Sunnah, and according to Imam Abu Hanifah, it is disliked (makruh). This hadith is an argument against their view.
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
Benefits and Issues: When a person receives good news, performing a prostration (sajdah) is Sunnah and recommended (mustahabb). When the repentance of Ka‘b ibn Malik radi Allahu anhu was accepted, he performed a prostration of gratitude (sajdah shukr). (Bukhari 4418) And this was also the practice of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam himself.

Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that a piece of news came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and he was pleased by it, so he fell down in prostration before Allah.
Imam Tirmidhi says: 1- This hadith is hasan ghareeb. 2- We know it only through this chain from the narration of Bukar bin Abdul Aziz. 3- Bukar bin Abdul Aziz bin Abi Bakrah is maqaarib al-hadith. 4- Most of the people of knowledge act upon this; they consider the prostration of gratitude to be valid.
Shaykh Dr. Abdur Rahman Freywai
Explanation: 1: The prostration of gratitude (sujud al-shukr) performed by Ka'b ibn Malik radi Allahu anhu is established through authentic narrations, and upon hearing the news of the killing of Musaylimah the Liar, Abu Bakr radi Allahu anhu also fell into prostration. Thus, it is legislated to perform the prostration of gratitude upon receiving news that brings happiness and joy to the heart.
