Abu Hurairah said “I came to Madeenah when the Abu Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in Khaibar, after it was captured. I asked him to give me a share from the booty. A son of Saeed bin Al ‘As spoke and said “Do not give him any share, Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I said “This is the killer of Ibn Qauqal. ” (The son of) Saeed bin Al ‘As said “Oh, how wonderful! Benefits and Issues:
➊
Those people who do not participate in the battle in any way
do not have a formal share in the spoils of war (ghanimah).
However, Imam Abu Hanifah rahimahullah states
that those who join the Muslim army after the spoils have been collected, but before they have been distributed, will also receive a share from them.
➋
Ibn Qawqal (Nu'man bin Qawqal radi Allahu anhu) was an Ansari Companion
who was martyred at the Battle of Uhud at the hands of Aban bin Sa'id.
Whereas Aban accepted Islam after Hudaybiyyah,
and the Battle of Khaybar took place after Hudaybiyyah.
➌
In the first narration, it is mentioned that Aban bin Sa'id made a claim for the spoils of war,
but Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu refused.
In the second narration, it is mentioned that Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu made the request, but Aban refused.
Hafiz Mundhiri, referencing Abu Bakr al-Khatib rahimahullah, has considered the second narration to be more correct.
