Narrated Abdullah ibn Masud: At the battle of Badr the Messenger of Allah gave me Abu Jahl's sword, as I had killed him.

Brief Explanation
1؎ : Since it was Abdullah bin Mas'ud radi Allahu anhu who separated Abu Jahl's head from his body (while there was still life in it), therefore the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam gave his sword to him. Otherwise, the actual killers were Mu'adh bin Amr bin Jamuh and Mu'adh bin 'Afra' radi Allahu anhuma.

Benefits and Issues: Abu Jahl was wounded by the sons of ‘Afra’, Mu‘adh and Mu‘awwidh, and by Mu‘adh ibn ‘Amr ibn al-Jamuh. And it was Ibn Mas‘ud radi Allahu anhu who severed his neck. (See the previous hadith 2680)
