Hadith 2704

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاق الشَّيْبَانِيُّ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي مُجَالِدٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي أَوْفَى ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : هَلْ كُنْتُمْ تُخَمِّسُونَ يَعْنِي الطَّعَامَ فِي عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ : أَصَبْنَا طَعَامًا يَوْمَ خَيْبَرَ فَكَانَ الرَّجُلُ يَجِيءُ فَيَأْخُذُ مِنْهُ مِقْدَارَ مَا يَكْفِيهِ ثُمَّ يَنْصَرِفُ .
Narrated Abdullah ibn Abu Awfa: Muhammad ibn AbulMujahid reported Abdullah ibn Abu Awfa as saying: I asked: Did you set aside the fifth of the food in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? He replied: On the day of Khaybar we captured food and a man would come and take as much food of it as needed and then go away.

From this it is also understood that items of food and drink, up to the extent of eating and drinking, may be taken by any mujahid before distribution; there will be no questioning regarding this.
