Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar: In the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ an army got food and honey and a fifth was not taken from them.

«أخرجه البخاري، فرض الخمس، باب ما يصيب من الطعام في أرض الحرب، 3154، وأبوداود، الجهاد، حديث:2701، وابن حبان (الموارد)، حديث:1670، وهو حديث صحيح.»©Explanation:
➊ From this hadith, it is understood that if, during battle, some food or drink comes into the hands of the combatants, they may consume it on the spot; there is no need to deposit it into the spoils of war (mal-e-ghanīmah). However, it is not permissible to take it away for hoarding purposes.
➋ Apart from food and drink, if animals or weapons of the enemy come into possession, they may be used for the battle, but after the battle ends, it is obligatory to return them to the spoils of war (mal-e-ghanīmah).
