Narrated Aishah, Ummul Muminin: When the people of Makkah sent about ransoming their prisoners Zaynab sent some property to ransom Abul As, sending among it a necklace of hers which Khadijah had had, and (which she) had given to her when she married Abul As. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw it, he felt great tenderness about it and said: If you consider that you should free her prisoner for her and return to her what belongs to her, (it will be well). They said: Yes. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ made an agreement with him that he should let Zaynab come to him, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Zayd ibn Harithah and a man of the Ansar (the Helpers) and said: Wait in the valley of Yajij till Zaynab passes you, then you should accompany her and bring her back.

Brief Explanation
1؎: Zaynab radi Allahu anha was the eldest daughter of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, and Abu al-As radi Allahu anhu was the nephew of Khadijah radi Allahu anha and the husband of Zaynab.
2؎: Perhaps this incident occurred before the prohibition of traveling with a non-mahram. After Zaynab radi Allahu anha came to Madinah, Abu al-As radi Allahu anhu remained in Makkah in a state of disbelief. Then he went to Syria for trade, and on his return, Islam was presented to him. He returned to Makkah, returned the wealth to its rightful owners, and in front of everyone recited the testimony of faith and embraced Islam. Then he migrated to Madinah, and after he became Muslim, the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam returned Zaynab to him in marriage.

Benefits and Issues: ➊ According to circumstances, it is also permissible to release a prisoner without taking ransom.
➋ The marriage of Hazrat Zainab radi Allahu anha with Abu al-As took place before the Prophethood. However, Abu al-As accepted Islam during the days of the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah.
➌ Wadi Yajij was located eight miles from Makkah.
➍ From the incident of Zainab radi Allahu anha, it is understood that due to extreme necessity, a woman may travel without a mahram, when it is not possible for her husband or a mahram to accompany her for some reason.
