Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
Benefits and Issues:
➊ It is prohibited to deliberately kill women and children.
➋ In situations such as night raids, when distinguishing (between combatants and non-combatants) becomes difficult, it is excused.
➌ Or, if in order to reach the adults, it becomes necessary to kill them (women and children), then it is permissible.
➍ Shaykh al-Albani (rahimahullah) states that the words, "After this, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) forbade the killing of women and children," are not authentic.

Benefit:
It is prohibited to kill women and children in jihad. [صحيح البخاري 3015] Similarly, the killing of the elderly has also been prohibited. However, if a night raid is carried out against the people of the land of war (dar al-harb), and (without any intention) their children and offspring are killed in it, then the same ruling will apply, because at night, in the darkness, it becomes difficult to distinguish between children and women. In such a situation, if children, the elderly, or women are killed, then there is no harm in it.
