Benefits and Issues:
Both of the aforementioned narrations are considered weak by most researchers; however, there is a narration of the same meaning found in Sahih Muslim, in which the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
“When you kill, then kill in the best manner, and when you slaughter, then slaughter in the best manner. A person should sharpen his knife and bring comfort to the animal being slaughtered (i.e., cause it as little pain as possible).”
(Sahih Muslim, al-Sayd wa’l-Dhaba’ih, Chapter: The Command to Do Well in Slaughter and Killing, and to Sharpen the Blade, Hadith: 1955; Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 3170)
