Narrated Qays ibn Abbad: The Companions of the Prophet ﷺ, disliked shouting while fighting.
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
Benefits and Issues:
➊
According to our esteemed researcher, this narration is weak.
However, Shaykh al-Albani states regarding it
that this narration is not marfu‘ (attributed to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) but is a sahih mawquf (attributed to a Companion) narration.
➋
During battle, meaningless, arrogant boasting and expressing one’s own greatness is not commendable.
However, in order to boost the morale of the Muslims,
to keep their spirits high,
to invite them to advance, and to intimidate the disbelievers, it is permissible and desirable to say something appropriate to the situation.
The very rajaz (battle chant) of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was during battle:
(“I am the Prophet, there is no lie; I am the son of ‘Abd al-Muttalib.”) (Sahih al-Bukhari, Book of Jihad and Expeditions, Hadith: 3042). Similarly, Salamah ibn al-Akwa‘ (radi Allahu anhu) once said to his opponent:
“Take this! And I am the son of Akwa‘.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Book of Jihad and Expeditions, Hadith: 3041). And the best of all deeds is the remembrance of Allah.
