Hadith 2602

Narrated Ali ibn Abu Talib: Ali ibn Rabiah said: I was present with Ali while a beast was brought to him to ride. When he put his foot in the stirrup, he said: "In the name of Allah. " Then when he sat on its back, he said: "Praise be to Allah. " He then said: "Glory be to Him Who has made this subservient to us, for we had not the strength, and to our Lord do we return. " He then said: "Praise be to Allah (thrice); Allah is Most Great (thrice): glory be to Thee, I have wronged myself, so forgive me, for only Thou forgivest sins. " He then laughed. He was asked: At what did you laugh? He replied: I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do as I have done, and laugh after that. I asked: Messenger of Allah, at what are you laughing? He replied: Your Lord, Most High, is pleased with His servant when he says: "Forgive me my sins. " He know that no one forgives sins except Him.

Benefits and Issues:
Islam wishes to shape a person’s temperament in such a way that not a single moment of life passes in which he is heedless of his Creator and Master. One should express gratitude for Allah’s blessings in every circumstance. And likewise, it should be adopted in the same manner as the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) demonstrated. This should be followed to the extent possible.

Explanation:
1:
This is not restricted only to a she-camel;
it is Sunnah to recite this supplication when mounting any ride,
as neither of the two hadiths in the chapter mention "she-camel."
In fact, in the second hadith, the word "ride" is used,
which applies to any means of conveyance.

2:
Glory be to the One Who has subjected this to us, for we could not have controlled it,
nor could we have put a halter on it,
nor bridled it;
and indeed, we are to return to our Lord.

3:
Glory be to You, O Allah! Indeed, I have wronged myself, so forgive me,
for none forgives sins except You.

Note:
(In the chain of narration, Abu Ishaq is a mixed-up narrator,
and thus his narration is also subject to confusion,
but due to corroborating narrations and supporting evidence, this hadith is considered sahih li-ghayrihi (authentic due to external evidence).
