Narrated Abbad ibn Abdullah ibn az-Zubayr: My foster-father said to me - he was one of Banu Murrah ibn Awf, and he was present in that battle, the battle of Mu'tah: By Allah, as if I am seeing Jafar who jumped from his reddish horse and hamstrung it; he then fought with the people until he was killed. Abu Dawud said: The tradition is not strong.

Hadith Takhrij «
Brief Explanation
1؎ : The "konch" is the thick tendon that is above a man's heel and below the ankle of quadrupeds. The konch of the horse was cut so that the enemy could not attack the Muslims using that horse. Also, from this hadith it is understood that in warfare, if there is a fear that equipment may fall into the hands of the enemy and become a means of strengthening them, then it is permissible to destroy it.

2؎ : Perhaps the author has considered this hadith to be weak on the basis that the foster father of ‘Ubad is ambiguous. However, he could also be a Companion, and this is what appears to be the case. On this basis, Al-Albani has declared it to be hasan (good), (it is hasan because "Ibn Ishaq" is a narrator of the hasan grade).
Explanation & Benefits

Benefits and Issues:
If, during battle, there is a fear that the combatant will be overpowered, then it is permissible for him to destroy his mount or other belongings, so that the enemy cannot benefit from them. Shaykh al-Albani has declared this narration to be hasan (good).
