Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
Benefits and Issues:
If the fundamental intention of the mujahid is to exalt the word of Allah, then the presence of other motives causes a reduction in his reward. Imam Bukhari has included this hadith under the following heading:
(Chapter: Whoever fights for the spoils of war, does his reward decrease?) (Sahih al-Bukhari, Obligatory Khums, Chapter: 10) — Does the reward of a person who fights for war booty become diminished?
