Hadith 2414

Nafi said: Ibn Umar used to go out to al-Ghabah (jungle), but he neither broke his fast, nor shortened his prayer.

Hadith Takhrij « ؟؟)
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
Benefits and Issues:
(Ghaba) is the name of a place on the upper side from Madinah towards Syria, which is approximately one barid (four farsakh/about 22 kilometers) away.
At such a distance, it is permissible to shorten the prayers (qasr) and also permissible to break the fast (iftar), but if a person shortens the prayers but does not break the fast, this is also permissible.
Because shortening the prayers and breaking the fast are not obligatory (fard), rather they are a concession (rukhsah), from which benefitting is preferable, but in any case, they are not obligatory or compulsory (wajib).
