Narrated Thawban: The Prophet ﷺ said: A man who cupped and a man who has himself cupped broke their fast. The narrator Shayban said in his version: Abu Qilabah told me that Abu Asma ar-Rahbi told him that Thawban, the client of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, told him that he heard the Prophet ﷺ say this.

Benefits and Issues:
➊ If the ahadith of this chapter are read together with the ahadith of the next chapter, the issue becomes clear that the ahadith of this chapter are either abrogated or should be understood as indicating dislike (karahah).
➋ In the chain of narration of Shayban, there is explicit mention of “akhbara” and “haddathana” (he informed us/he narrated to us), whereas in the chain of Hisham, there is ‘an‘anah (the use of “‘an”/“from,” which may indicate a possible break in the chain).
