Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
Benefits and Issues:
This is a statement of a Tabi‘i. ‘Abdullah ibn Ubayy, the chief of the hypocrites, had several slave girls; among them was one named Maseekah. He used to force them into fornication and would earn income from this.
When these slave girls accepted Islam, they began to refuse this vile act, but he would compel them. So, in this context, this verse was revealed: that fornication is, in itself, an extremely vile and shameless act, so to force someone into this act is even worse. However, for the one who is forced, there is forgiveness from Allah Ta‘ala, but how will the one who compels them save himself?
