Hadith 2263

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرٌو يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ ابْنِ الْهَادِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ يُونُسَ ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ حِينَ نَزَلَتْ آيَةُ الْمُتَلَاعِنَيْنِ : " أَيُّمَا امْرَأَةٍ أَدْخَلَتْ عَلَى قَوْمٍ مَنْ لَيْسَ مِنْهُمْ ، فَلَيْسَتْ مِنَ اللَّهِ فِي شَيْءٍ ، وَلَنْ يُدْخِلَهَا اللَّهُ جَنَّتَهُ ، وَأَيُّمَا رَجُلٍ جَحَدَ وَلَدَهُ وَهُوَ يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ ، احْتَجَبَ اللَّهُ مِنْهُ وَفَضَحَهُ عَلَى رُءُوسِ الْأَوَّلِينَ وَالْآخِرِينَ " .
Narrated Abu Hurairah: Abu Hurairah heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say when the verse about invoking curses came down: Any woman who brings to her family one who does not belong to it has nothing to do with Allah (i. e. expects no mercy from Allah), and Allah will not bring her into His Paradise. Allah, the Exalted, will veil Himself from any man who disowns his child when he looks at him, and disgrace him in the presence of all creatures, first and last.

Benefits and Issues:
If a woman commits adultery somewhere and becomes pregnant, and then attributes the child to her husband and his people, or if a father, without any valid or legitimate reason, denies his own child, then both of these are extremely detestable and vile acts.
And both of these actions are among the major sins (kaba'ir).

(1) "Who is not from among them" — that is, he is the result of adultery, but she attributes him to the husband.
(2) "Has no connection with Allah, the Exalted" — this is hyperbole; the apparent words are not intended. The meaning is that it is a very grave sin which can become a cause for deprivation from Allah, the Exalted, and His mercy. Or, the following sentence, "Allah, the Exalted, will not admit him to Paradise," is its explanation.
(3) "While the child is looking at him" — this translation is also possible: "While the man is looking at the child, realizing that he is indeed his." And Allah knows best.
