Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Prophet ﷺ said: When a man has two wives and he is inclined to one of them, he will come on the Day of resurrection with a side hanging down.
Explanation & Benefits

(1) The aforementioned narration has been declared weak in its chain by the researcher of the book, whereas other scholars have deemed it authentic. And in light of the evidences, the opinion of the latter appears to be more correct. And Allah knows best. For details, see (al-Mawsu‘ah al-Hadithiyyah, Musnad al-Imam Ahmad: 13/320, 321; Irwa’ al-Ghalil: 7/80; Sunan Ibn Majah with the verification of Dr. Bashar ‘Awwad, Hadith: 1969; Dhakheerat al-‘Uqba Sharh Sunan al-Nasa’i: 28/178).
(2) The recompense of deeds is similar to the deeds themselves, because this person maintained a biased attitude in the world; therefore, on the Day of Resurrection, one of his sides will be paralyzed. The inclination referred to here is not an inner inclination, but rather an outward conduct (such as division of time, maintenance, etc.), because the matter of the heart is in the hand of Allah ta‘ala. In many matters of the heart, a person is helpless; therefore, he will not be held accountable for that.

Benefits and Issues:
➊ The mentioned narration has been declared weak in its chain of transmission by our esteemed researcher, whereas other scholars have considered it authentic. For details, see: (al-Mawsu‘ah al-Hadithiyyah, Musnad al-Imam Ahmad: 13/320, 321, and Sunan Ibn Majah, verified by Dr. Bashar ‘Awwad, Hadith: 1969). Therefore, despite the mentioned narration being weak in its chain, it is still actionable and a valid proof.
➋ If someone has two or more wives, it is possible that the heart may incline more towards one, but this should not become a cause for injustice.
➌ In intimacy (mubasharah), there may be some increase or decrease according to inclination and desire, but it is not permissible to ignore the sexual needs of one. Allah’s statement is: ﴿فَلَا تَمِيلُوا كُلَّ الْمَيْلِ فَتَذَرُوهَا كَالْمُعَلَّقَةِ﴾ (al-Nisa: 129) “So do not incline completely [towards one] so as to leave the other hanging [in between].”
➍ The consequences of worldly deeds will also become manifest on the Day of Resurrection, and according to these deeds, there will be differences in the ranks of Paradise and Hell. According to them, the blessings of Paradise and the punishments of Hell will also be determined.
