Narrated Jabir ibn Abdullah: The Prophet ﷺ said: If anyone gives as a dower to his wife two handfuls of flour or dates he has made her lawful for him. Abu Dawud said: This tradition has been narrated by Abdur Rahman ibn Mahdi, from Salih ibn Ruman, from Abu al-Zubayr on the authority of Jabir as his own statement (not going back to the Prophet). It has also been transmitted by Abu Asim from Salih ibn Ruman, from Abuz Zubayr on the authority of Jabir who said: During the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ we used to contract temporary marriage for a handful of grain. Abu Dawud said: This tradition has also been transmitted by Ibn Juraij from Abu al-Zubair on the authority of Jabir similar to the one narrated by Abu Asim.

Benefits and Issues:
Nikah Mut'ah was permissible before Khaybar, and even after that it remained permissible for some periods.
However, on the occasion of the conquest of Makkah, it was completely prohibited.
This incident could have occurred before the revelation of its prohibition, and the main point in it is the mention of the minimum dowry (mahr), which is an essential component of a legally valid (shar'i halal) marriage.
All other aspects of Mut'ah have been abrogated and declared unlawful.

Takhrij:
«أخرجه أبوداود، النكاح، باب قلة المهر، حديث:2110.* ابن رومان مستور وثقه ابن حبان وحده وفيه علة أخري.»©Explanation:
This hadith is evidence that when the man and woman contracting marriage agree upon any amount of mahr (dower), whether it is little or much, as long as it has value, then this is permissible.
