Narrated Muharrish al-Kabi: The Prophet ﷺ entered al-Ji'ranah. He came to the mosque (there) and prayed as long as Allah desired; he then wore ihram. Then he rode his camel and faced Batn Sarif till he reached the way which leads to Madina. He returned from Makkah (at night to al-Ji'ranah) as if he had passed the night at Makkah.

Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
1996. Commentary: (fa-asbaha b-Makkata ka-ba’it) — And he spent the morning in Makkah, as if he had spent the night there. It is as though you were there from the night. This phrase is a mistake on the part of a narrator. What is found in Jami’ al-Tirmidhi, Sunan al-Nasa’i, and Musnad Ahmad is more correct: that he performed ‘umrah at night and returned to Ji’irrana that very night. It is as if he spent the night there. And on this basis, this ‘umrah of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam remained hidden from some of the Companions radi Allahu anhum ajma’in. (Bazl al-Majhud) This hadith corresponds to the chapter in this way: that one performing a compensatory (‘umrah al-qada) or supererogatory (‘umrah al-nafl) ‘umrah should enter into ihram from Tan’im or Ji’irrana — these two places are the nearest miqat points.

Benefit:
Permanent residents of Makkah and foreign employees, etc., will assume ihram from their own homes. However, among those residing temporarily within the miqat or within the Haram, if anyone wishes to assume ihram, he must go outside the Haram to one of the miqat locations and assume ihram there. This is as the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam assumed ihram from Ji‘irranah and performed ‘umrah.
